After a long career in sales, marketing, advertising and real estate, Richard McEwan retired to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. He recently added the title of author after writing his first children’s book, “The Adventures of Sir Buddy and Mr. Pupples – The Rescue” just released by Halo Publishing International in 2014.
Inspired to write because of his grandchildren’s love to read and he and his wife’s love of fostering animals, the book introduces children to fostering a pet and how to rescue a stray animal and find it a home. McEwan plans to expand his adventures with Sir Buddy and Mr. Pupples by creating a series of books with the two golden retriever characters. In fact, he already has the next two books written. The release dates have yet to be determined.
He is a graduate of Franklin and Marshall College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. McEwan served in the U.S. Navy, actively for two years and four years in the Reserves. He says his time on board the USS Newport News was an incredible experience where he transversed the Atlantic and Mediterranean visiting 17 countries and 21 ports in 20 months.
McEwan lives with his wife, Christie, and their two dogs, Buddy and River, one cat named Oyster and many photos of foster dogs. The two fostered about 50 dogs during a span of 5 years volunteering with the Animal Welfare League in the Northern Neck of Virginia. Together, McEwan and his wife, have three children and four grandchildren.
